Dos Brazos del Rio Tigre

Home of the largest gold mining company ever to have mined on the peninsula, and staging point for thousands of gold-fevered prospectors in the eighties, Dos Brazos is today a sleepy jungle hamlet at the confluence of two rivers flowing from Corcovado Park and is a delightful thirty minute drive from Puerto Jimenez.  Located adjacent to a broad swath of the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve and near the southeastern boundary of Corcovado Park, Dos Brazos is a nice "mountain" destination. 

In addition to wildlife spotting, bird-watching, and horseback tours in the area, the two rivers are placer gold deposits.  While the biggest gold was stripped in commercial operations in the eighties, there are stretches and places that were missed or were outside of original tracts.  This offers the gold-curious visitor the opportunity to hand mine with either just a gold pan for an hour or two on up to a sluice box and a full day's work slated on a known bearing location.

Bosque del Rio Tigre Lodge is the premiere all-inclusive lodge of the area and specializes in bird watching.  With a lodge perched above the floodplain of the Piedras Blancas fork of the Rio Tigre, they are ideally positioned to sponsor wildlife and birding tours, horseback, and mining activities.  $100 per person per day, lodging and meals.

OTHER ACTIVITIES TEXT:  In addition you will find an ample assortment of wilderness hiking tours with specialty tours that focus of birds, insects, nocturnal life, sea turtles and more.  There are a considerable number of horseback tours offered by a variety of outfitters.  Sea kayaking and canoeing are readily available.  At some lodges kayaks and canoes are made available to guests at no extra charge.
